Welcome to The Peace Kids sticky icon

The Peace Kids is a network aimed at inspiring kids like you, and helping you see that you can change the world. Working through the classroom and using online tools, you will learn about real heroes - the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize-- and how these otherwise "ordinary" people changed the world and made it better.

The Peace Kids is a brand new program, it was just launched in December, 2008 by TheCommunity.com, a group that has been working with the Nobel Peace Prize winners for more than 8 years.

We hope you'll take a minute to join The Peace Kids, and share some of your hopes and ideas with our community. You can be one of the first to start a blog, comment on our stories and other kids' blogs, and talk things over with other kids from all over the world in our forums. All in an environment that is both safe and fun.

The Banker to the Poor

Muhammad Yunus was an Economics teacher in a University when he decided to set up a bank in Bangladesh, near India, to make loans to poor people who could not get loans any other way. Today that bank -- Grameen Bank -- is all around the world and has inspired many people to do the same.

In this video, Professor Yunus talks about why it is important for children to think about and talk about what kind of a world they want when they grow up.

Savings lives of children in conflict areas

When children are caught up on a war, their whole lives are often turned upside down. Many children have to leave their homes with their parents to find safety in a refugee camp.

Today you can help children whose lives have been torn up by war. With just $10, you can send a mosquito net to a child in a refugee camp. And you can have fun doing it.

The Peace Kids now has a team set up at Nothing But Nets, the mosquito net program run by the United Nations Foundation, that gets mosquito nets right to the kids in refugee camps in Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Now you or your class or even your whole school can be a part of The Peace Kids team!
