The Banker to the Poor

Muhammad Yunus is a banker from Bangladesh, near India. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000.

He is famous as the "banker to the poor". The bank he established, Grameen Bank, makes small loans -- microloans -- to poor people so they can start businesses. Most of the people Grameen makes loans to are women. The loans help them start small businesses to help feed their families.

The way Grameen Bank loans money to the poor is so successful that it has inspired others in more than 100 countries to do something similar.

This video is from the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates in Rome, that TheCommunity.com is a partner in. Professor Yunus talks here about children deciding what kind of a world they want when they grow up.

Nobel Peace Laureate, Muhammad Yunus, could not have made his point any clearer! I want to grow up in a world where everyone is acknowledged for their gifts and talents and use their skills to better the world.
